Thankful Monday: Thank You Notes

Well, today I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Great way to start off the week of Thanksgiving, let me tell ya.

Instead of counting blessings and giving thanks (which I was literally doing as I went to bed last night so, like, what happened??), I muttered angry phrases at other horrible drivers, yelled at my pug, and couldn’t stop thinking of my seemingly countless failings in life.

Obviously, this is not how I want this day or week of Thanks to go down. And, I am aware that I have more than most to be thankful for and I can’t let a case of the Mondays ruin today or any other day this week. So, I tried to cheer up… and failed.

Christmas music. Check. An inspiring email from my little sister. Check. A lot of coffee. Check, check, check. Better mood? Nope. What can be done with this awful mood!?!?!

Determined to feel thankful, I dove into a stack of thank you notes I’ve been meaning to write to everyone who contributed to my NYC Marathon Charity – the Jackson Gabriel Silver Foundation.

And, guess what? I finally feel better. I feel more thankful. By choosing to spread gratitude and harnessing the feelings of deep, deep appreciation I have for everyone who supported me throughout the four months of long runs, fundraising and one incredible race, I actually changed my mood.

I feel grateful and ready for the week. I’m motivated to do my work. I’m motivated to host our Thanksgiving visitors. I’m especially motivated for tonight’s run. Even better, I’m determined to fix those nagging failings and stressors I was focused on this morning.

So, if you’re struggling to find a reason to be thankful, pull out a stack of thank you notes and write a few to some deserving people in your life. I think it’ll help you find a lot to be thankful for and will help make your week of Thanksgiving that much more fulfilling.

Happy Thanksgiving week!! What are you thankful for?

Thankful Week: A List

Happy Wednesday!

Is anyone else starting to crave turkey and stuffing? Excited for a day of food, football and thanks? I am! I can hardly concentrate at work today thinking of all the last minute prep we need to do before hosting Thanksgiving at our house tomorrow. I’m so excited!

Today, with all this holiday magic in the air, I can’t pinpoint just one thing I’m thankful for. So, I’ve decided to share a list. Weird…me make a list.

I am thankful for:

  • Our office closing at noon today. Oh, and my job. Thankful for the job.
  • ┬áThe egg nog I had with breakfast. (And the egg nog latte I’ll likely have with lunch.)
  • The little guy kicking me from inside.
  • After tomorrow, people won’t judge me for listening to Christmas music.
  • A warm home with everything I need and more…even if sometimes it feels like it’s falling apart!
  • My dogs – who are currently barking in the backyard. Speaking of, ever wonder where pugs come from?
  • Having a relatively easy pregnancy. Have you been following The Bump posts?
  • Warm, cozy blankets.
  • My spouse whose cookin’ up Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.
(Me & the Spouse)
  • Shopping on Saturday at LOCAL shops.
  • A long Thanksgiving weekend to relax and plan for Christmas.
  • The trip I’m taking to NJ & NYC in December!
Rockefeller Tree
  • My mom & sister throwing me a baby shower (hence the trip to NJ!).
  • Picking out table decor for tomorrow’s feast (think cream, pinecones, and a little sparkle). Inspired by this.
  • The Muppets Movie comes out today. Check out this sweet Muppabet.
  • Family & friends to share the holidays with.
  • And finally….Christmas Movies!! (Which technically I started watching on November 4…but I am so very thankful for them!)

I hope you all have a long list of items to be thankful for this holiday season!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Thankful Week: Baking

Happy Tuesday!

I woke up this morning with a serious hankering for coffee cake. Doesn’t that sound amazing? I think I’m making a stop at Starbucks on the way into the office today. Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake, here I come!

(Side note, I wrote this post before heading into the office and the car in front of me at the drive-thru bought my coffee! Isn’t that awesome?! I bought a cup for the person behind me…keep the joy going! I’m also thankful for kind people today!)

Today, I am thankful for baking. More specifically, for the resulting baked goods. If I’m being honest with myself, I’m thankful for home-baked goodies every day…especially the last few months. I’m no stranger to carb cravings but being pregnant has amplified my usual lust for a loaf (or a cookie or a muffin) to an obsession. Mmmm, cookies.

Being that this week is Thanksgiving, I’ve decided to indulge in my desire for delectable buns by baking a few of my favorite pumpkin treats. I’ve always enjoyed baking (whether or not I’m actually good at it) and I’m thankful for the smell of cookies or pastries in the oven, for licking the spoon, eating the dough, and for the warm treat I get to enjoy once it’s done.

Here’s a few of the planned treats for this week. I can’t wait to make them!

Pumpkin Pie – My contribution to Thanksgiving dinner since the spouse cooks everything else (seriously, I’m lucky gal).

Pumpkin Bread – A yummy treat for Thanksgiving morning. I plan to enjoy it with an egg nog latte.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars – Something to hold me over until T-Day. I need a sweet bit o’ pumpkin and little chocolate now.

Pumpkin Bread Pudding – WHAT!!!?? How have I not had this before!

Okay, I totally don’t plan to attempt to make bread pudding before Thanksgiving but I might let myself try it out over the weekend. I found it while searching for the other pics and recipes… looks mouth-watering good (don’t you agree!?).
