The Circus Is In Town

Nearly two months ago, my little man turned one. ONE! I know, time is flying by at an unbelievable rate.

I’ve been planning to share photos of the party with you and thought I’d kick it off with the photo shoot we did for the invitation.

Of course, the fabulous freckle photography was our photographer and she caught the theme I was going for perfectly. Here’s my little strong man getting ready for the big day! I’ll be sure to share photos of the party soon!

Thankful Thursday: One

Can you believe it? He’s one.

One year ago (yesterday), I met my little man for the very first time. One year ago, everything changed.

The doctor said, “I think we should do a cesarean.” And less than one hour later, he was here.

One day later, I realized how much more I could love. One week later, I was readmitted to the hospital. Darn c-section.

One month later, I still couldn’t believe he was ours.  One year later, I feel all the same emotions tenfold.

Today Everyday, I am thankful for the one-year-old that I’m lucky enough to call my son. He’s the sweetest, kindest and (I have to say, cutest) baby I’ve known. I can’t wait to see what all of the years ahead will bring for my little man!

Happy Birthday, baby boy! You’re ONE!

Lucky Number 7

Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We had a very enjoyable (and relaxing) weekend that included date night for the spouse and I on Friday and a small BBQ dinner with friends on Saturday. On Sunday, we had our family photos taken for our Christmas card. I can’t wait to see how they turned out and share them with you!

This lovely weekend also let me get caught up on a long list of tasks I’ve been putting off all month. One of those items was to take a picture of the baby boy in a tie onesie for his 7 month birthday (which was over two weeks ago now…ooops!).

Month number seven has been a big one for my little guy. He now has two front teeth (on the bottom) and I think the top teeth will be coming in any day. He had his first overnight sleepover without mom and dad (I’ll tell you where we were in a different post) thanks to grandpa. He’s also started crawling military-style and he can sit up! Every day I marvel at how much he changes and quickly he’s growing up!

Happy (belated) 7-month birthday to my big boy! We love you so much!

Here are months 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Domestically-Challenged Mom Celebrates 5 Months

Four months ago, I took a picture of the little man to celebrate his one-month birthday. I had decided to dress him in one of the adorable tie onesies that my Martha-Stewart-channeling friend, Jesse, had made him. She had made four different onesies in size 0-3 months and 3-6 months (’cause she’s good like that).

At the time, being all new-mom-excited, I thought I’d make the eight additional onesies needed to take photos every month of his first year. I figured, I had four months of gifted onesies, plenty of time to craft the new ones, right?

I think you can guess what happened.

I didn’t make new onesies. And, sure as baby poop, here we are at month five.

So, what happened? Time fly by too fast? Nah. Balancing a busy life take over? Nope.

The truth? Every time I think about trying to cut a tie-shaped piece of patterned fabric and affixing it with needle and thread to another piece of fabric, I become a little twitchy. Just slightly anxious. My Type-A mind gets nervous at the thought of using my clumsy hands to produce anything I’d dress my child in. I can visualize the fabric, cut into an unidentifiable asymmetric shape, trembling in my fingertips while I prick myself from looping thread through a baby tee. It’s a big ol’ mess. And no, I do not have a sewing machine (the idea of shoving fabric through a needle-wielding-jack-hammer instills even more fear).

So now that my little dude isn’t so little and the smaller sizes no longer fit, what do I do to take a tie picture?

I cut the sleeves off, tucked the ‘onesie’ part into a pair of shorts, and ‘Voila!’ A whole new baby look.

Normally I’m not a fan of short-sleeves with a tie, but I think we can make an exception here.

Crafty? No. Resourceful? Maybe.

In the end, it doesn’t really matter because this kiddo would look cute in a potato sack.

It’s already been five months since he arrived and I still I can’t believe this little guy is mine. His giggle, his sparkling eyes, and his smile bring us joy every minute of the day. Even though I can’t sew (or really do much of any homemaker-type activities) this little man doesn’t care. And he lets me know he loves me despite my domestic flaws with his sweet baby coos, his little hugs, and his happy face.

Happy 5 Months, sweetheart!

Check out months 1, 2, 3, 4.

Thankful Thursday: Motivation

Happy Thankful Thursday!

Today I am thankful for motivation!!! And I’m finding the inspiration to get motivated in all sorts of places….

First, I’m reading this book, Eat that Frog! It couldn’t be more perfect for me. It’s all about how to stop procrastinating and get things done. And do you know how? With lists!! Glorious lists! Lists of monthly ‘to do’ items, lists of weekly tasks, lists of today’s activities. It talks about prioritizing lists, listing your goals, listing the steps to achieve said goals. Oh, it’s just oozing with list-love.

I love it. My notebooks are full, my pen is out of ink and my fingers are sore, but I’m ready. I’m motivated to get it all done… from buy a teething ring for the baby to writing a book.

Bring it, hopes and dreams. Bring it.

Second, I read all about this race. And then I got three of my besties to commit to doing it with me!

Of course, I can’t be unprepared now can I? So, I’m motivated to work out and run my not-so-little-rear-end off. We’re gonna get in shape and feed the hungry. Let’s DO this!

And last, but never least, let’s not forget this guy:

He, who motivates me to be better person, is on the Thankful list every.single.time. Love that little looker.

Happy Thankful Thursday!!

What motivates you?

Happy Summer!

Happy Summer Solstice!

It has been hot, hot, hot in Colorado. But, despite our raging temps, I couldn’t be happier that my favorite season has arrived!

This summer is extra special because I get to share it with my little guy….it’s his first summer ever! That means his first camping trip (hopefully), his first day at the pool, his first 4th of July, his first picnic, his first Labor Day, his first pair of sunglasses, his first time in swim trunks…..

The list goes on and on! I am thrilled to share these special moments with the little dude and am looking forward to a summer full of fun, sunshine, and memories. There are so many things to do in the summer months….I’m thinking a Summer List might be in order!

But, Stacey, shouldn’t you finish your Baby List and 30 Before 30 List first?

Okay. You’re right. I do have a few updates on the Baby List that I never shared which I promise to post soon. And I’m working on those Classic books and flat abs I never finished before 30. I think adding a few summer-inspired ‘to do’s’ will be just the thing we need to get this blog in full swing again (oh yeah…sorry for my absence…being a mom is time-consuming).

So, the Summer List is on its way….. In the meantime, bust out your sunnies, unwrap a frozen treat, and enjoy the summer sun!

Twelve Weeks…One Blink

Yesterday, I returned to work full-time.

You know what that means? It means my little man is twelve weeks old. Twelve Weeks!

I can’t believe it.

Wasn’t it just yesterday that he was breathing his first breath? Wasn’t it just a moment ago that I first looked into his perfectly blue eyes? It seems like it’s been just one heartbeat since I first heard his tiny cry.

Before he arrived, I was terrified. I didn’t know how I’d manage sleepless nights and baby cries. I couldn’t imagine operating day-to-day around a two-hour feeding schedule. I didn’t quite believe I’d be capable of taking care of another person. But then, somehow, it just happened.

Although some days were long and the nights were even longer, the minutes of baby smiles and coos flew by. And now, in just twelve short weeks, I feel like I’ve completely forgotten what life was like for the 31 years before March 6th, 2012. I just can’t imagine life without this little guy.

Baby Boy

While I’m sad and feeling a little bittersweet that my time at home with my little one is over, I’m excited at what the future will bring. I’m curious to see what working and being a mom will be like. I’m wondering how often I’ll go for a run, bake yummy treats, or sneak away for a drink with the girls – and how often I’ll opt to snuggle with him instead.

Right now, I’m not sure I’ll be able to balance life between raising my tiny family, volunteering, working and spending time with friends….but I’m excited to try. The last twelve weeks surprised and awed me. And I can’t wait to find out what’s in store for us….I just hope it doesn’t go by too fast.

P.S. Thanks for allowing me a short break from blogging on my last days of maternity leave. It all started with this last post and we’ve enjoyed a whirlwind 10 days since then. I’ll be sure to fill you in on all the fun we had over the next week or so.

Two Months!

I can’t believe it but my little dude is already two months old!

His two month birthday was yesterday and I just can’t believe how much he’s changed since he was born. He’s changed so much just in the last month!

He’s starting to coo, reach for things and loves his mobile and other hanging musical toys. He is even starting to sleep through the night! Not only that but this little trooper has had a very busy couple of months…..attending lots of meetings with mom, helping volunteer, and participating in his first BBQ competition.

Every day we’re amazed at his growth and little personality. I can’t describe how much I love this kiddo!

Happy Two Month Birthday, little one!!

Here’s to One Month!

I cannot hardly believe it, but one month ago today my little man was born! This month has flown by…it is a blur! I can’t begin to tell you how many diapers we’ve used or hours of sleep we’ve lost.

All I know is that I become more infatuated with the teeny dude every day. (Awww….loving parents are awesome.) Of course I could go on about how sweet his tiny toes and ticklish feet are or how cute his ears are…but I’ll spare you my gushing. I know every parent thinks their kid is perfect and I’m totally abusing my blog to tell you all how great he is.

Bah! I can’t help it!

Look at the baby. Look at the baby. Look at the baby.ISN’T HE CUTE!?

All right…that’s enough.

Happy One Month Birthday, A-man! Daddy and I love you more and more every minute!

Thankful Thursday: A List

Happy Thankful Thursday!

We haven’t had a Thankful Thursday for awhile….seems like its time to spread a bit of gratitude. I have so much to be grateful for these days that I thought I’d make a little list instead of focusing on one topic like usual.

So, on today’s Thankful Thursday, I am thankful for:

My sweet little baby boy.

Sleeping more than two hours at a time.

Being able to drink coffee and wine.

Catching up with old friends.

My health, the spouse’s health, and a healthy little baby.

Springtime weather.

Simcoe and Barley.

Shopping for clothes that are my pre-pregnancy size. (I owe it all to hungry baby and working out throughout my pregnancy…I haven’t been able to workout since having the little dude so that must be what it is!)

The smell of a baby.

Supportive friends who have lots of good advice.

Singing the Beatles to rock my little man to sleep.

The idea of chopping off all my hair.

Not caring if the house clean.

Baby socks.

Quiet time with the spouse after the little man has gone to bed.

Google Reader.

Fresh Flowers.

What are you thankful for today?
