2013: One of the Best

Well, tomorrow is the last day of 2013 and, like most, I’m reflecting on the past year and looking forward to the year ahead. Unlike most, I can jog my memory for what actually happened in 2013 by reading my own blog.

And, I have to say, I’m quite pleased with the past year.

However, when I got to my New Year’s Resolution list for 2013 to see what I could cross off, I realized I didn’t make one. Gasp!

In the year that I bought a new house, vacationed in Mexico, hosted a Circus Party for my one-year old, saw Hillary Clinton speak, lost all feeling in my leg but then got it back, and then trained for and ran in the New York City Marathon, I didn’t set out to achieve anything.

I’m not really sure how to process this.

List-lover that I am, it doesn’t make sense that I accomplished anything without first writing it down. And yet, I can say that 2013 was probably one of the best year’s of my life. In fact, I really don’t know what to put on a list for 2014 because I’m not sure it can get much better.

Aside from my own achievements, this year was also the year my middle sister got married and my littlest sister got engaged. My dearest friends welcomed a new baby and we moved within a half-mile of each other. My brother moved across the country twice and is expecting a little boy next spring.

And the greatest news of all, my dad was diagnosed with stage 3 throat and tongue cancer and beat ithe is now 100% cancer free.

Yes, 2013 was full of surprise, blessings, change, and growth. You know, my spouse always says that 13 is his lucky number. It was his soccer jersey number when he was a kid and, oddly enough, both of the houses we’ve owned have had 13 in the address. After the year we’ve had, I think he’s right.

Let’s hope my soccer jersey number from when I was young, 14, will prove to be as good to us! I have a sneaking suspicion things are going to be great in 2014…. but more on that later.

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you enjoy celebrating 2013 and have a wonderful 2014!

Here’s to Summer!

Summer is here! Huzzah!

I don’t know what it’s like where you live but in Colorado, summer is in full-swing. Thank you, planet Earth!

With Memorial Day behind us, it’s officially summer in my book. Side Note: uhm … now that it’s warm out, can we slow this year down a bit?? We spent our Memorial Day weekend doing most of my favorite warm-weather activities: running, bbq-ing, concert-going and back-porch-beer-sipping-with-best-friends. I already feel like I had a whole summer in just three days!

And that’s just the start of it … June is shaping up to be an exceptional month and I am really looking forward ridiculously excited about it.

I feel like I have way to much to share to even attempt to discuss it all in one post so I’ll save all the plans and details for the weeks ahead. In the meantime, I hope you’ve already found a summer brew to enjoy and have plans to get outside in the coming months.

It’s summer!! Have fun!!!!

Remember, life is kind of like a party.

You invite a lot of people, some leave early, some stay all night, some laugh with you, some laugh at you, and some show up really late. But in the end, after the fun, there are a few who stay to help you clean up the mess. And most of the time, they aren’t even the ones who made the mess. These people are your real friends in life. They are the ones who matter most.

Here’s to One More Week!

Happy Friday!

I am so glad the weekend is here! And, we only have ONE WEEK left until our due date! I keep hearing that babies are unpredictable so…..he could come at any time!

I thought a quick recap of the Baby List updates might be in order as we’re approaching the end of this crazy nine months.

Updating you on our preparations has been so fun (and therapeutic)! Thank you all for your feedback and encouragement! This is such an exciting (and also scary) time!

1. Decorate & Complete the NurseryDone! Brown & Gold. Sports. And little Cowboys.

2.Write a Letter to Baby & Save for a Time in the FutureIn progress.

3. Get the Spouse the Perfect Dad Gift Done! I haven’t posted it yet because I don’t want him to see it ahead of time. I’ll share with you all after the little guy arrives.

4. Continue Exercising (Cardio & Yoga)Done! With the exception of the last two weeks, I worked out for pretty much the whole nine months. There was a break here and there, and some inconsistency – some weeks only one workout, others four! I can’t say I was perfect or kept it up the entire time but I feel pretty good about what got done. You can read my update here. And here are a couple of pregnancy race recaps: 1, 2

5. Make a Special Welcome Gift for BabyIncomplete :( This project has been put off weekend after weekend. Maybe this weekend it’ll happen?

6. Select God ParentsDone! Read all about my brother and sister.

7. Schedule a Spa/Relaxation DayDone! It was glorious.

8. Write a Thank You Letter to My Mother Done! Yesterday’s Thankful Thursday.

9. Buy as Few Maternity Clothes as PossibleDone! Shared a little advice and my favorite spots to shop.

We’re getting close! Bah!

Have a great weekend everyone!

P.S. You can read all my pregnancy posts here.

Here’s to Belly Shots!

It’s FRIDAY!!!!!

I could not be more pleased that the weekend is here. I see very little in my weekend future….except sleep. I think I’m finally recovering from this nasty cold but I’m not quite healthy yet. I’m really hoping to kick this thing completely by Sunday because it’s time to do maternity photos! (read: belly shots. Did anyone else, for just a second, think of taking a shot from someone’s naval when they read the words ‘belly shot’? No? Only me? Let’s move on.)

I’m going roll this butterball of a body in front of a camera and flash my pearly whites so years from now I can look back on this time and smile. It’s always fun to play model for a day so I can’t wait until the shoot (assuming my nose isn’t red and swollen and my eyes stop watering).

My dear friend, Jesse, over at freckle photography will be doing the shoot. She takes amazing photos and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the pics! I wanted to give her a little shout out and post some of the lovely pregnant ladies she’s captured over the years. Bonus – these ladies are some of my dearest friends. You better believe their just as amazing at being mama’s as they are beautiful.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend planned!

Here’s to Procrastination!

Okay, this week was, well…uh….

This was the kind of week that I did a lot of putting things off and not finishing projects.

Instead of finishing my library book, I paid an overdue notice and renewed the book to give myself another three weeks with it. Instead of picking out new carpet for the nursery, I delegated that task to my spouse and required him to have it complete by Monday (I can procrastinate, he can’t). Instead of running on the treadmill, I thought I’d start off a with a few minutes of brisk walking and ended up never increasing the speed.

Not my most productive week, but a good week nonetheless. The first few days of the week were packed with meetings and planning future events which I’m excited and inspired by, but all the good feelings and inspiration just wore me out. I did have some downtime last night (which I should have used to go buy toilet paper but instead I put a roll of paper towels in the bathroom) and I enjoyed the much-needed rest.

So, I say, keep the procrastination going one more day! I’ve gathered up a few fun links around the web below so you can blow off whatever you were gonna get done today and spend the afternoon surfing. You’re welcome. Not every day is an inspirational, productive one.

Oh hey, don’t put off grabbing a drink at happy hour after work…I’d get started on that ASAP. ;)

Here’s to Two Thousand Eleven!!

Well, it’s here…the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012! I can’t believe everything that happened this year…especially this surprise!

via Design Sponge

When I look back on 2011, I smile. Although there were some challenges, I’d have to say that the spouse and I were very blessed over the last twelve months. For the second half of two thousand eleven, we’ve been looking forward to welcoming our baby in twenty-twelve so, as you can imagine, we’re a little anxious for it to get here.

But, before we wave good-bye to the year I got knocked up, there’s a few things left to do. I scheduled a pre-natal massage this afternoon to enter 2012 relaxed and refreshed. My closest gal pals are getting together tomorrow afternoon to celebrate the year behind us and the year ahead. And my spouse is whipping up a special feast to accompany the ringing in of the new year.

Of course, there’s also new year resolutions. Around this time one year ago, I set out my eleven NYR in 2011 and it’s time to find out how I measured up. It looks like a few things will be reappearing on the 2012 NYR list, but overall I’m pleased with the results….

1. Finish Outstanding 30 Before 30 Items Status: EPIC FAIL. Not only did I not accomplish them, I didn’t even take the beginning steps to start working on them. These last items have been moved to the Bucket List (and perhaps you’ll see them on a future 40 before 40 list one day). They will be accomplished at some point in life!

2. Read 2-3 Books per Month – Status: Winning!! Er…sort of! Okay, I didn’t quite knock this goal outta tha …library. But, I did read a lot this year…more than in previous years. I probably averaged 1-2 books per month rather than 2-3. Some of the standouts include: Bossypants, Water for Elephants, Born Standing Up, It’s Not How Good You Are It’s How Good You Want to Be, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (still finishing that one), Outliers (still finishing that one too), The Help, Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang, Eat Pray Love, An Object of Beauty, Unmarketing, History of Love, and all these pregnancy books.

3. Redesign my Blog – Status: Totally did that! Really lovin’ the shape and direction this blog is going….hope you like it too.

4. Save Up Down Payment for New Car – Status: Achieved and now re-resoluted. Got myself a great “commuter” car in 2011 and will be revisiting this goal in 2012 for a good “I’m a parent now” car (note: this is no way suggests minivan).

5. Bake Frequently – Status: Winning! I baked a lot this year! I made lots of breads, cookies, and recently mastered pies. It was a successful baking year indeed!

6. Get Organized & Be Punctual! – Status: Hahahahahahaha. I dream….

7. Paint My Fingernails Frequently – Status: Removed from list. Yeah, I dropped this goal in June. My nails look weird with paint so I opt for a sheer coat of clear polish and regular buffing.

8. Run in ONE race per month – Status: Half-accomplished. I’d like to say it’s because I was pregnant for half of the year, but if I’m being honest with myself, I started falling behind on one race a month immediately. However, keeping races on the horizon did serve it’s purpose. I was frequently motivated to exercise (even while preggo) at the idea of doing a race. In fact, I’ve been doing a pretty good job with my new workout plan anticipating that I’ll be running in the Resolution 5k this Sunday (we’ll see what happens)! You can find the races I did manage to do here: Race 1, Race 2, Race 3, Race 4: Volunteering, Race 5, Race 6: Spectator

9. Enter a Writing Contest – Status: EPIC FAIL. Read about a lot of contests. Got intimated and didn’t do them. I’m scared.

10. Drink Less…of Everything but Water Status: Accomplished! My success can be attributed to the bump. This little guy requires so much water and won’t let me have alcohol or caffeine (at least not too much) so…water it is!

11. Write a Hand Written Note to One Friend or Family Member each WeekStatus: Half-Accomplished. Like so many resolutions, I started off strong on this one and then slipped. I did manage to get a note out here and there and became slightly more timely with things like thank you’s and birthday cards…but I definitely didn’t get this done every week. I really enjoyed doing it when I did mange to press a pen to paper and always got a sweet reply from the recipient. Definitely a practice to continue.

Next week, I’ll share my 2012 resolutions with you. Have any suggestions? What’s on your 2012 To Do List?

I hope you all have an incredible last couple of days in 2011!! And I wish you a very Happy 2012!!

Here’s to Going Counterclockwise

Happy Friday!

How was your week? Mine was a little hectic. It started off in Fort Worth, TX with 70 degree temps and but ended with inches and inches of snow after flying home to a blizzard! Add a busy schedule and big ol’ pregnant belly to the mix and it’s fairly understandable why I was one wiped-out lady last night.

But today, oh today, I am one excited girl. Not only do we get to celebrate my second favorite day of the year tonight, but this weekend we get to turn all of our clocks back an hour. That means we get a WHOLE EXTRA HOUR. Bah! An extra hour…oh my, oh my, what will you do with it?

Clearly, I’m excited by the whole “Fall Back” thing and plan to use every minute of my extra hour doing something fabulously indulgent. Perhaps I’ll bake something oozing with chocolate or go get a massage or a man/pedi. Either way, that extra hour is going to be well spent!

Hope you enjoy your weekend and use that extra hour wisely (sleep is also a great option)!
