Insomnia & Pug Balloons

Seriously? Pug balloons exist!??

What a wonderful world.

I have little to say about these adorable balloons except the French magazine, Grazia, has found a new fan … although I can’t read a lick of French (despite years of classes).

When insomnia strikes, apparently I click through blogs until I find online magazines in languages other than the one I speak. Also, I write a poems … terrible poems that could have been written by a nine year-old. Ugh, sleep deprivation … c’est la vie. I guess.

Hope you got some sleep last night and dreamt of flying puggies.

Thankful Thursday: A List

Happy Thankful Thursday!

We haven’t had a Thankful Thursday for awhile….seems like its time to spread a bit of gratitude. I have so much to be grateful for these days that I thought I’d make a little list instead of focusing on one topic like usual.

So, on today’s Thankful Thursday, I am thankful for:

My sweet little baby boy.

Sleeping more than two hours at a time.

Being able to drink coffee and wine.

via

Catching up with old friends.

My health, the spouse’s health, and a healthy little baby.

Quotes.

via

Springtime weather.

Simcoe and Barley.

Shopping for clothes that are my pre-pregnancy size. (I owe it all to hungry baby and working out throughout my pregnancy…I haven’t been able to workout since having the little dude so that must be what it is!)

The smell of a baby.

Supportive friends who have lots of good advice.

Singing the Beatles to rock my little man to sleep.

via

The idea of chopping off all my hair.

Not caring if the house clean.

Baby socks.

Quiet time with the spouse after the little man has gone to bed.

Google Reader.

Fresh Flowers.

What are you thankful for today?

Thankful Thursday: Woman’s Best Friend

Happy Thankful Thursday!

I hope you’re all having a lovely week! Today, I stumbled across a couple of pictures that I’d never seen before of my two dogs (my mom took them). I was instantly overwhelmed with love and gratitude (silly dogs meltin’ my heart and whatnot). So, I decided to dedicate today’s Thankful Thursday to my sweet pups, Barley and Simcoe.

Lately, being that I require a lot of rest time, my favorite thing to do is snuggle up on the couch with the hounds. Simcoe, the mastiff, (we call her Simmy) usually lets me lay my big, butterball belly on her and she props her giant head on my shoulder to sniff my face while I snooze.

Simcoe

Barley, the pug, curls up in a little ball and snuggles his head into the backs of my knees which results in restricted breathing for him and even louder snoring (that animal snores even while awake). Did you know that when pugs relax or sleep their curly tails unroll? It’s literally the cutest thing in the entire world.

Barley

Sure, like most relationships, we have our ups and downs. I’m no stranger to dog shenanigans and there are times when they just gross me out – they get into the most disgusting situations.

But, on this Thankful Thursday, I am thankful for the dogs that offer me company when I need someone to talk to during the work day (I bounce ideas off them when I work from home. They’re usually stunned silent by my brilliance…hoo-ha). I am also thankful for always having a cuddle buddy with when I need nap and never being alone because they follow me everywhere.

I know they’re thankful for us every time that sad animal rescue commercial with Sara McLachlan comes on while they’re watching tv. And I’m thankful that they are both ecstatic and overjoyed every time they see me, even when I’ve been gone for just a few minutes.

So, on today’s Thankful Thursday, give your pet an extra pat, hug, or treat to say thanks for their unconditional love.

Ain’t Nothin’ But a “G” Thang

Today is going to be a long one.

After waking up at 5am, I decided to pump myself up and get a little tough for the rough day ahead by blasting some good ol’ 90’s rap on the way to work. As I stumbled over lyrics to Next Episode in stop-and-go traffic, I realized I was (once again) reliving Office Space. I had to laugh at myself and my thug-inspired, um, Scenario. But the hilarity of the situation didn’t kill my spirit, I busted out a little Buzzin’ (it’s not 90’s but it’s fun) to really get get amp’d up and now I’m ready for the day.

Pugs, books, and engineers….my kind of Gangsta’s Paradise. ;) Have a great Tuesday, everyone!

Puppy Love

It occurred to me yesterday that I haven’t posted any images of the puppies in a while. So, I had planned to provide pictures of their cute, furry faces with a big long story was about how great they are, how much I love them, and how I love to cuddle with them when we take naps.

But then, I called them inside for a quick photo shoot and my mastiff tracked mud all throughout the house, jumped on the couch, and tried to eat the pug. The pug attempted to fight back and melee ensued.

So, while I still love them, I definitely don’t like them anymore and will not be singing they’re praises.

Here’s a few shots of the mischievous mutts post-rumble…. you may think they look like angels but know that there are little devils behind those sweet eyes.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Well, it’s here!

The first snow of the season has arrived and it showed up in full force. Our neighborhood is a winter wonderland of white….and fallen down trees. For those not familiar with fall in Colorado, we have a gorgeous fall with red, yellow and orange trees full of leaves but we always, always, always get a huge snowfall before the leaves have dropped. The result – tree limbs snapping under the weight of our white, powdery, Colorado precipitation.

This morning, as I dragged broken aspen and twisted willow branches around my backyard into a pile, I let the dogs out to explore the new chilly terrain. I couldn’t resist sharing some photos with you because these two pups had me cracking up. Simcoe, the English Mastiff, (about 10 months old) LOVED the snow. Barley, the Pug, (almost 6 years) was not as impressed.

Not sure at first if this is okay.

Could he BE any cuter?
Crazy Snow Dog.
Hiding out under the deck (and our now-frozen tomato plants) where it’s dry. Silly pug.

Just a side note – I may or may not be listening to Christmas music while I type this. The holidays are just around the corner! Bah!

Hope wherever you are, you’re staying warm! Happy Snow Day from Colorado!

Happy St. Patty’s Day!

Top o’ the mornin’ to ya!

Doesn’t Barley look like a little Pug Thug in that picture?

I hope you all remembered to wear green today! To celebrate St. Patty’s, I couldn’t resist dressing up my (obviously unhappy) pups this morning! Silly dogs (silly me). Further celebration plans include baking Irish Soda Bread and meeting up with friends after work for a St. Patrick’s Day toast. What are you doing to celebrate?

Real quick – today’s 30 Day Blog Challenge is to post a picture of something that has impacted your life recently. Well, see above. That cute pup in the bundle of green boa feathers has been a BIG impact. Not only do we expect her to eventually be between 130-150lbs but introducing this big lady to our existing tiny pug, in our tiny house, as a new member of our tiny family, has been quite the adventure!

Well, I hope you all enjoy your St. Pat’s – I usually reserve the toasts for Friday but since it’s such a special day (read: second Christmas), I thought I’d better find a luck o’ the Irish blessing for you all.

“May you live as long as you want and never want as long as you live!”

Beannachtam na Felie Padraig!

P.S. Would really appreciate your nomination on the Women’s Health Blogs We Love Contest! A big Thanks for your time with all my Irish heart!

Barley & Me

I’m embarrassed to admit that today’s 30 Day Blog Challenge stumped me. We are supposed to post a picture of our most treasured item. I thought and thought…..and thought some more…..and could’t come up with anything! So, I looked at my spouse and said, “What do you think my most treasured item is?” And he immediately responded with, “Uh, Barley!”

D’oh!

Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t consider Barley an item; he’s a full member of our family. (I don’t know why my mom won’t accept him as her grandson.) But when I think of my most treasured anything, I can’t believe I overlooked my little butterball of a pug! I feel like a terrible dog-mom. Ashamed of myself, I decided to post three pictures of him, to show him three times the love.

A New Blog & A New Dog!

Hello! I’m so excited to share my new blog with you….I hope you all find it enjoyable to read, appealing to the eyeballs and somewhat organized (at least more organized than my previous attempt at blogging)!

January was a fast month, I can’t believe it has already flown by! Is it really February 2011? Puh.

I spent most of January getting organized for the rest of the year, researching blogs, archiving and categorizing my old posts and……getting a new puppy!! Our new gal, Simcoe, is just the sweetest little English Mastiff. He he he, “Little.” Yeah, for like, a week.

Barley, our pug, is kind of jealous right now, but learning to love his little sister. They make quite the pair, huh?

Thanks so much for checking out my new space in the blogosphere. I hope you enjoy the new layout…tell me if you do! I’ve got all sorts of new widgets and gadgets for you to share your thoughts with me, other people and, well, that about covers the sharing options.

I’m hoping to post two to three times a week (a lofty goal, I know). And to get us started, I feel its most appropriate to start with the phrase that inspired this site:

“And as cliché as it may sound, I’d like to raise another round. And if your bottle’s empty, help yourself to mine. Thank you for your time. And Here’s to Life!” – Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers

Thank you for your time!

Cheers!

Giving Thanks!

Happy Thanksgiving!

With Thanksgiving tomorrow, naturally I’ve been reflecting on what I’m thankful for and how lucky of a girl I really I am. And since you all know how much I LOVE to make lists…I thought I’d make a list of the top 10 things I’m grateful for. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

1. Family – I hear so many people complain of “having” to spend the holidays with family. Driving or flying from this place to that and eating more than one Thanksgiving turkey (the outrage!) but I look forward to these busy (sometimes hectic) days. To see my siblings, parents, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents is a special experience that I treasure deeply. I live pretty far away from my East Coast fam and don’t get to see my Wyoming kin too often either so whether I’m looking over the Rocky Mountains with my dad, sis and brother or toasting wine with my cousins in Jersey, every time I get to spend with my family is truly, truly special. Also, I couldn’t ask for a better person to share my life, adventures and future with than the spouse :)

2. My Friends – My friends are the most hilarious, entertaining, talented and caring people I’ve ever met! I am so very lucky to be surrounded by a group of people that I’ve known since high school, befriended in college and met in recent years.

3. Pugs – Specifically, Barley. Need I say more than show you this photo? How could you not be thankful for this sweet animal (er…plant)!??

4. Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers – I absolutely adore RCPM (especially Jim….guitar players…get me every time). Catching every concert possible on the Front Range, I attempt to meet the band every time and surprisingly they’ve started to remember me! (Uh, oh….here comes that crazy girl Steve Larson* warned us about). I LOVE them and if you don’t know them, GO HERE to give a listen. You’re Welcome.*stevelarson is their ex-guitarist

5. The FC – Rated as Money magazine’s 6th Best Town to Live in, helping earn the Front Range the “Napa Valley of Beers” status, a ten minute drive to the Rocky Mountains, and a plethora of local restaurants…..it just doesn’t get better than Fort Collins. I’m so grateful to live in this town. In what other town could you take your dog for a run….to a microbrewery!? (The FC is also rated in the Top 10 Active Towns to live in, has been high-ranked on the Most Pet-Friendly cities in recent years AND….AND we’re the home of Odell & New Belgium Breweries).

6. Christmas – From November 1 to December 25th, I’ll be the jolliest a**hole this side of the nuthouse :)

7. My Health – Recently, I’ve become much more appreciative of my health, something I’ve taken for granted in the past. As 30 quickly approaches and I start to snap, crackle and pop with every limb movement, I’m reminded to be thankful for a body that allows me to push myself to pretty extreme physical limits, learn to golf with my spouse and lets me dance, dance, dance to Ke$ha (alone, when no one is watching).

8. My Job – In these tough economic times, everyone should be thankful if they are employed! I can say I’m truly thankful for my job!! They send me awesome places like Vegas, Boston and other great locations and I get to meet and work with a lot of great people! Also, without my job I couldn’t have the home I live in, enjoy all the great food I am lucky enough to get to eat (and pad myself with) and all the other things I enjoy and am so very, very thankful for.

9. Food, Coffee & Red Wine – I LOVE to eat! Who doesn’t right? Between the Food Network, my spouse’s culinary wizardry, the Kilted Pig, my own kitchen adventures and all of the amazing restaurants I get to go to….my world is literally controlled by what, when and where I get to eat. Add a cup of joe in the morning and good glass of red wine in the evening and that pretty much sums up what I think about all day (good thing I’ve got #7 to work it all off).

10. YOU!!! Blog readers – I appreciate you visiting my page, reading my sometimes incoherent ramblings and supporting me with your comments and continued visits.

Thank you & Happy Thanksgiving!!!
